Finally! An Australian-made Soap Shaker! This cheerful yellow soap shaker makes me so happy. Knowing that I am supporting a small business to produce a locally designed and manufactured soap shaker. Vicki and Robyn from Soap Shakin Sisters were inspired to recreate their mother's soap shaker so that we could all benefit from doing our dishes with an Australian-made soap shaker. 

A soap shaker (also known as a soap saver or suds maker or soap cage) is the old-fashioned way of using a bar of soap for the washing up.  It can also be used to dissolve soap for hand-washing in the laundry or putting some bubbles in your bath. 

Soap shakers are the perfect way to reduce single-use plastic in the kitchen - no more bottles of dishwashing liquid, just use bars of soap and a soap shaker that will last for decades.     

This soap shaker is slightly smaller than our stainless steel option, great for small spaces, it just means you'll need to trim the soap to fit in at first. For best results, pair it with our cleaning soap (which is made specifically for cleaning rather than bathing, and with tallow so that it lasts for a long time) or you can use up all the leftover small bits of soap from the bathroom.

The soap shaker will work best for those with soft water (particularly rainwater tanks).  If you have hard water, you will find that it forms scum and the bubbles don't last as long (that is just the soap reacting with the calcium in the water).

For best results - rinse dishes first, use hot water, run the water over the soap shaker and/or swish the soap shaker until the desired amount of bubbles appear.  Store the soap shaker where it can drain.

The soap shaker is made in Australia from type 5 plastic (polypropylene, which can be recycled). Its measurements are approximately 9cm x 7xm x 4.5cm cage with a 19cm handle.
